Why not share a taxi?
Since 1998, to help reduce waiting times for everyone, we’ve operated a taxi sharing scheme from London Paddington on weekday mornings.
Why operate a taxi share scheme?
During peak periods there simply are not enough taxis to quickly meet customer demand at Paddington. Our scheme helps more people to depart more quickly, at a reduced fare, to central London destinations.
Weekday mornings, between 08:30 and 10:30. However, we stop operating once there are sufficient taxis for everyone.
Taxi travellers choose to share a taxi. It is not compulsory, although sharers do generally depart quicker.
Heathrow Express employs taxi marshals, members of the Licensed Taxi Drivers Association, who help organise sharers into groups travelling to the same central London zone. You don’t need to know your destination zone, the taxi Marshals will ensure you’re in the right group.
To book a taxi share:
- Collect a destination zone voucher from the Share Marshals at the taxi queue
- Skip the queue straight to the priority loading bays numbered 4 to 6.
- A taxi marshal shows you to your shared taxi.
- Pay the driver the fixed fare shown on the zone voucher for your chosen destination.
- Arrive at your specific destination in the most appropriate order, set out by the driver.
To use the taxi share service costs nothing. The zone fares you pay, as from 1 April 2006 are:
| W1(N) | W1(S) | WC1 | WC2 | SW | City(N) | City(S) |
| £5.00 | £5.00 | £6.50 | £6.50 | £6.50 | £8.50 | £8.50 |
The Heathrow Express Paddington Taxi Sharing Scheme is regulated and the zone fares are set by Transport for London.
By sharing a taxi from Paddington to Central London, you:
- get a taxi quicker
- save money on the standard metered fare
- may meet interesting fellow travellers
- help reduce congestion and pollution in London
In 2007 almost 78,500 taxi passengers shared from Paddington saving over 42,000 normal taxi journeys.
