Mediterranean destinations 'proving popular'

Published: 29 July 2010 18:17

With the school holidays now in full swing, millions of families will be preparing to jet out of London Heathrow Airport and other hubs for their annual summer break.

According to flight provider Monarch, Mediterranean destinations are proving popular with British travellers this summer.

The airline revealed that its top spot for summer 2010 is the Canary Islands, which are attracting around 63 per cent more people this year than in 2009.

Other in-demand destinations include Turkey and Cyprus, with bookings up by 37 per cent and 35 per cent respectively.

"Whilst summer 2009 saw bookings for seven to ten-night holidays surge, demand has once again been restored for 14-night holidays and we are seeing a significant increase to both long and short haul holiday hotspots around the world," said Monarch Holidays managing director Hugh Morgan.

A recent poll by Travelsupermarket.com revealed that 14 per cent of people are more likely to travel abroad now than they were six months ago.
