Heathrow Express

Heathrow Express Fares Update

01 January 2022: Heathrow Express has consistently received the top customer satisfaction ratings for the past decade, with its NRPS scores always being in the Top 2 across all Train Operating companies and the highest for any rail air service in Britain. With a new fleet, the highest luggage space for any mode of public transport at Heathrow, comfortable seating and space for travellers to relax in a tranquil environment, Heathrow Express will be making fares even simpler by having the same price for all flexible fares across both the digital and at station physical channels. This means the flexible Return fare will continue to remain frozen at £37 since 2017 whereas the flexible Single fare will now be £25 across all channels instead of costing £25 offline and £22 online. Great value fixed single fares will still remain unchanged and start at £5.50 when purchased in advance. Children will still continue to go for free when accompanied by an adult.

New Contactless travel on Heathrow Express

Mon 22 Jan 2018

You will soon be able to use Contactless payment or Oyster to travel on Heathrow Express.

From Tuesday 19 February 2019, Contactless and Oyster are new ways to pay for your Heathrow Express journey simply by touching in and out using the card readers on newly installed ticket barriers at London Paddington and Heathrow Airport.

When you touch in at the start of your journey and out at your destination, you will be automatically charged for the journey you make meaning there’s no need to purchase a ticket before travelling.

Depending on the time you travel on Heathrow Express, you will be charged for a Peak or Off-Peak Express single meaning you’ll still find the best value fares including Express Saver Returns, advance tickets from £5.50 each way at weekends and other great offers at heathrowexpress.com or via our app.

You can also use Contactless or Oyster to travel in our Business First carriages by paying to upgrade once on-board. Business First offers a more private, spacious environment with wider seating, tables you can work from and a selection of complimentary magazines and newspapers.

What is Contactless?

Contactless allows you to use a bank card or mobile device to make purchases with no need for a PIN or signature - just touch your bank card or mobile device on a contactless card reader. If your bank card shows the contactless payment symbol, you can use it to pay as you go straight away.

Many contactless cards issued outside the UK can be used to pay as go for travel (overseas transaction fees may apply):
- American Express (AMEX)
- MasterCard and Maestro
- Visa and V PAY

Check with your card issuer if you’re not sure if your card is contactless or if it’s rejected when you touch in.

What is Oyster?
Oyster is a smartcard from Transport for London (TfL) that you add money to, so you can pay as you go on travel services in London. Click here to find out more.

How do I use Contactless and Oyster?
Simply touch in and out on a yellow card reader on ticket barriers in stations at the start and end of your journey. Always use the same device or contactless card to touch in and out to pay the right fare for your journey.

You can’t share payment methods so each person travelling must have their own Contactless bank card, mobile device or Oyster card.

How much does it cost?
Using Contactless payment or Oyster costs the same as a Peak or Off-Peak Express Single. A Peak Express Saver Single is £25 if travelling during our peak times (6.30am - 09.30am and 4pm - 7pm Monday – Friday excluding UK Bank Holidays) and Off-Peak is £22.

For the best value fares including Express Saver Returns, advance tickets from £5.50 each way at weekends and other great offers book online at heathrowexpress.com or via our app.

Travel on Heathrow Express is not included in travelcards or in weekly / monthly fare capping.
