Chatting to someone you don’t know at a party can be a daunting experience, but every friend you have was once a stranger, right? Well that’s how we randomly met the founders of Nomadic People – at an 80's inspired house party. When we pulled out their business card the following morning, we realised that we'd stumbled across a winner. Nomadic People are a brand that focuses on great craftsmanship. In their words, they offer “distinguished pieces for today’s traveller, creating a unique breed of ‘gentlemanly urban’ style and function.” Our current pick would be their ‘Reiss Weekend Tote’; it’s a tote, but proper manly, mate. Proper.
Wet, Wet, Wet
Just to clarify, this isn’t a gritty police drama; London Undercover are makers of umbrellas. If there was ever a city you were going to name an umbrella brand after, London would be a good choice. Now when you think about it, the name is actually pretty clever. London Under a cover? Get it? We first found about this brand a few years back. Famous for their bright and energetic design, they were a breath of fresh air for the umbrella market. They've just opened a new store in London’s Spitalfields Market, which is well worth a look. Our pick from the range is their current collaboration with bright new British designer duo, AGI & SAM.
Tied up by Marwood
We were avid boy scouts at school, so tying knots was one of our earliest guilty pleasures. Forming a knot in so many ways fascinated us. And yes, we didn’t have many friends. Years on we’ve made a few pals and that love of knots became an appreciation of ties. A tie is something that needs to be considered. From the fabric to the length, from the width to the pattern colour – all elements play an important role in how it complements your outfit. For those that are really looking to stand out, Marwood is a great London brand that considers all these elements in their designs. (www.marwoodlondon.co.uk)
Viva La France!
If there’s one thing you can rely on from the French, it is their innate ability for beauty and style. Coco Chanel, Brigitte Bardot, erm ... Gérard Depardieu. Sandro is a Paris-based brand that radiates Gallic grace. Think a mix of Kooples and Reiss and you have a good idea. Best news is, they've just opened a new store in London’s Covent Garden. Head down there or click online to check out their latest pieces.

One for the birds
Pelicans and Parrots is one of those stores that you’d normally walk past without a second glance. But after stepping inside out of curiosity, we realised that this is one of the coolest stores in London’s Dalston. There’s an array of trendy homeware and antique books, which flank an exceptional vintage menswear rail. Reuben found a shirt almost identical to one our father owned in the 1970’s. When Reuben walked in wearing it, dad literally high fived him and did a little dance. That was well worth the £9 alone! (www.pelicansandparrots.com)
