Travelling to London and watching cricket at Lord’s is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. The home of cricket in England is one of the most iconic grounds in the world. And in 2025, the hugely successful The Hundred tournament is back, which is running throughout August.
When you arrive in London you won’t want to miss a wicket and the quickest and easiest way to get from Heathrow to central London is with the Heathrow Express. Our 15-minute transfer gets you most of the way to Lords so you can sit back knowing you’ll be relaxing in the stands before the batsman is bowled out.
Getting the Heathrow Express: the quickest way to get to the cricket
Thankfully, once you arrive at Heathrow you can hop on the Heathrow Express and travel non-stop to Central London in just 15 minutes. If your flight lands at Terminal 2, 3 or 4 take the train from Heathrow Central and you’ll arrive at London Paddington in a quarter of an hour. For flights arriving at Terminal 5, the train ride from Terminal 5 station takes an extra six minutes.
It’s the fastest and easiest way to travel from the airport to Central London. With the Heathrow Express, you’ll get to the cricket in no time and you won’t miss a wicket.
The next leg: getting to Lord’s
Lord’s is located in St. John’s Wood, which is around a 10 to 15 minute drive from Paddington station. You might consider a taxi, but how long it takes will depend on the traffic, which can get super busy around the ground and further afield when there’s a big match on. And as we all know, The Hundred is getting pretty big.
Potentially your quickest option is to hop on the tube at Paddington. First, take either the Hammersmith & City Line or the Circle Line for two stops to Baker Street. Then simply jump on the Jubilee Line at Baker Street and travel one stop to St. John’s Wood. It’s then just a five-minute walk to Lord’s. The atmosphere will be electric as soon as you make your way out of the tube station.
Arrived early? Here are some places to eat and drink around the ground
Wow, that was quick! You thought you’d miss the first few overs, but with the efficiency of your transport from the airport into Central London on the Heathrow Express you’ve actually arrived near the ground with time to spare. Here are some spots to relax and take in the atmosphere:
- Lord’s Tavern: Grab some traditional pub grub and enjoy a cold pint at the Lord’s Tavern, right by the ground’s Grace Gate. It gets busy on match days, but it’s always well worth a visit.
- England’s Grace: If you want a decent meal before the cricket action starts, England’s Grace in St. John’s Wood is the place to go. It has an Antipodean-inspired British menu with brunch classics and creative lunchtime specials. Who doesn’t love Australia and England coming together close to the ground where they’ve shared so many epic cricket battles?
- The Duke of York: Just by St. John’s Wood tube station, the Duke of York is a classic English pub and the ideal spot before the cricket. Why not pop in for a cold drink or to sample the steak the pub is known for?
- The New Inn Pub & Indian Restaurant: Another option close to the tube station, that’s perfect if you fancy a little spice before the big hitting cricket action begins.
- Drunch: Head to this popular café in St. John’s Wood for some seriously good brunch served all day long.
How to get into the ground when the time comes
Once the time comes to get into the ground, there are a variety of entrances and gates that you can use, including the North Gate, Wellington Place Gate, Bicentenary Gate and Grace Gate.
Check your ticket to see which is closest to your seat. There’s a helpful map on the Lord’s website that details the location of each gate to make everything as easy as possible.
