Get to know your transport options

Whilst the tube can appear complex, it’s simple to navigate once you get the hang of it. The city’s bus network is extensive and ideal to hop on and hop off as you explore the city.

The easiest way to pay is by using a contactless debit card, which you can tap as you get on and off the bus and go in and out of tube stations. An Oyster Card is also a good option if you want to load money onto a card for transport while you're on holiday. Oyster Cards can be used on the Heathrow Express too.

Understand that attractions are closer than you think

Yes, once you’ve mastered the tube, it’s super easy to zip around London. But many attractions are actually closer than they seem.

If you find yourself in Trafalgar Square and fancy Covent Garden next, it might be tempting to head down into Charing Cross station to get the tube. Stretch your legs instead for your eight-minute walk where you’ll see sights including the historic Covent Garden Market – you might even catch a street performance on your way too. From Covent Garden, you can walk to Leicester Square, down to The Strand or up to Soho.
