It’s a simple and straightforward journey from Cambridge to Heathrow Airport, with three legs to your trip.

The first leg is to travel from Cambridge to King’s Cross train station on the train. You’ll then journey from King’s Cross to London Paddington, to take the Heathrow Express direct to Heathrow Airport.

Cambridge to London: Getting into the capital

The first stage of your journey is to take the train from Cambridge to London King’s Cross station. There are around three direct trains every hour on Great Northern. The fastest train takes around 55 minutes, with slower trains having a journey time of around 1 hour 23 minutes.

Getting from King's Cross to Paddington

The simplest and fastest way to get from London King’s Cross to Paddington station is to take the London Underground.


Stroll to King’s Cross St. Pancras tube station from the main train station and take the Circle Line or Hammersmith & City Line. It’s just five stops on the tube to Paddington and there’s no need to change tube lines.

How to locate the Heathrow Express in Paddington

Once you arrive at London Paddington, make your way up from the London Underground station to the main station concourse. On most days, our trains run from platforms six and seven, so head through the ticket barriers with your Heathrow Express ticket.


It’s important to always check the boards at the station in case we’re running from a different platform on the day. We’re usually platforms six and seven, but sometimes we do need to change.

All aboard the Heathrow Express

The Heathrow Express is the quickest and most efficient way to get from central London to London Heathrow. Our trains leave Paddington station every 15 minutes, and take just 15 minutes to travel to the airport.


Once on the train, settle into your seat and enjoy the ample legroom. There’s free Wi-Fi on board whether you want to check in for your flight or catch up with friends. Passengers on Business First Class benefit from a table and power points at their seats to log on for some last-minute work. The smooth journey continues at the airport if you’re travelling on Business First Class, as your ticket also includes free Fast Track through security. Children aged 15 and under travel for free on Heathrow Express, on both Standard Class and Business First Class.

Arriving at Heathrow Airport

Hop on the Heathrow Express and you’ll glide into Heathrow Central station in just 15 minutes, with an extra six minutes to Terminal 5 station.


For flights from Terminal 2, 3 or 4, leave the train at Heathrow Central. You can walk to either Terminal 2 or Terminal 3 using the inter-terminal walkway, while passengers flying from Terminal 4 need to take the shuttle bus from Heathrow Central to the terminal. It runs regularly and takes just a few minutes.


For flights from Terminal 5, stay on the Heathrow Express for an extra six minutes into Terminal 5 station.
