The Richmond to Heathrow route

Travelling from Richmond to Heathrow is a simple journey. There are two main stages to your trip. The first is to travel from Richmond to London Paddington. Once at Paddington, you’ll take the Heathrow Express to the airport.


Here we’ll detail both legs of the journey, so you can plan your trip in advance.

How to get from Richmond to London Paddington

First, you’ll need to travel from Richmond to London Paddington, with the easiest and quickest way to take the London Underground.


Richmond is the final stop on one of the branches of the District Line, to the South West of Central London. At Richmond station, hop on the District Line towards Edgware Road. This line runs direct to Paddington.


Paddington is 13 stops away, and your journey should take around 33 minutes.

Buying Tube tickets to Paddington from Richmond

To travel on the Tube, you’ll need to pay for a ticket. You have a few options, whether you choose to buy a paper ticket from the station, use your Oyster Card or tap in to pay contactless on your debit card.


To make things a little easier, you can book both your Heathrow Express and London Underground tickets online with us. There’s no need to queue to buy tickets before you hop on the Tube. You’ll have all your tickets in the same place for seamless travel. You only need to make one booking too.

Where does the Heathrow Express leave from at Paddington station?

The Heathrow Express leaves London Paddington station from platforms six and seven. These are our designated Heathrow Express platforms.


Once you leave your District Line train at Paddington, make your way up to the main station concourse. Follow the signs up to the station and use the lift or escalator. From the concourse, you’ll need to head through the ticket barriers using your Heathrow Express ticket.


Remember to check the boards to make sure we’re running from our usual platforms, as occasionally it does change.

Hop on the Heathrow Express from your Richmond Tube

Take the Heathrow Express for smooth and seamless travel to Heathrow from Central London. Our trains take just 15 minutes to journey from Paddington to Heathrow Central, then an extra six minutes to Terminal 5 station. We leave Paddington every 15 minutes, with four trains an hour.


Once you’re on the train, relax in your comfy seat and enjoy the ample legroom on offer. You’ll find plenty of space to store your luggage, whether you’re travelling solo, as a couple or with the family.


You can connect to our free WiFi – it’s available throughout our trains. If you’re travelling on Business First Class, you’ll have a dedicated table to catch up on any last-minute work before your flight. And you’ll sail through security with free Fast Track Security with your Business First Class ticket.


Kids aged 15 and under travel for free on Heathrow Express, on both Standard Class and Business First Class.

Arriving at Heathrow Airport from Richmond

After just 15 minutes on the Heathrow Express, we arrive at our first stop. Heathrow Central station. Leave the train here if you’re flying from Terminal 2, 3 or 4. It’s a short walk to either Terminal 2 or 3 using the inter-terminal walkway. For Terminal 4, you’ll need to hop on the quick shuttle bus from Heathrow Central to the terminal.


Our second and final stop is Terminal 5 station, just six minutes later. Leave the train here for all flights from Terminal 5.
